Julian HuppertA call by backbenchers for MPs to support the continued deployment of UK troops in Afghanistan has been rejected by Cambridge MP Julian Huppert.

He has called on the government to ensure the safe return of the armed forces as soon as possible.

Julian has lodged an amendment to a motion which could be debated in the House of Commons tomorrow (Thursday).

He has urged fellow MPs to give their support to the armed forces and recognise the hard work they are doing while at the same time requesting "that the government ensure that they are brought back to safety as soon as possible".

Julian said: "These brave men and women are doing a first class job in the most difficult circumstances while at the same time putting their lives at risk. We must never forget that.

"And this government must do all it can to make sure they can come home at the earliest opportunity. This aim should be a priority."
