Cambridge Liberal Democrats have listened to residents and decided to defer for a month a decision on work on plane trees in the city's Alexandra Gardens.

The decision to remove the item from the city council's planning committee agenda today comes after approximately 200 people expressed their views on the plans.

Now the proposal will go forward to the planning committee on October 20 and a final decision will be made at a special meeting of the Community Services Committee.

Cambridge City Executive Councillor for Arts and Recreation, Rod Cantrill said: "Clearly, this proposal has generated a great deal of concern from residents and we have listened very carefully to these concerns.

"We have removed the proposal from this week's planning committee to make sure that we give as much attention as possible to the public's views. We hope this will also give anyone who wishes to contribute to the decision the opportunity to do so."
